As far as Ahmedabad walled city is concerned where there was a rich pol culture with houses joined to each other wall by wall and people connected heart to heart.
With change of time and modern lifestyle, original residents of pol from Raipur, Khadia, Astodia, Sarangpur, Relief Road, Kalupur TankShaal, Dhal Ni Pole, Pakhali Ni Pole, Manunaik Ni Pole, Raja Mehta Ni Pole, Doshiwada Ni Pole, Sanki Sheri, Bhau Ni Pole, Manek Chowk, etc, shifted to Satellite, Vastrapur, Bopal, Ghatlodia and other newly developed western areas of Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabadis cannot resist their heart recall very touching moments spent during pol culture where Kite Festival called Uttarayan is held. It is learnt that people including those from western Ahmedabad, Mumbai, NRIs and NRGs book terraces in the walled Ahmedabad city for Uttarayan celebration with family, friends and finacees.
For them, terraces of Raipur, Khadia, Sarangpur, Relief Road, Zaveriwad and Manek Chowk is first preference. They pay rent during Uttarayan.
Prominent houses which could suit requirement of kite flyers during Uttarayan can become money spinner and help money out of seasonal income. In walled city areas there is a market with ample kite shops which lures kite enthusiasts to Raipur and Khadia like areas during Uttarayan.
The demand as well as the rate for terrace increases as Uttarayan gets closer; it soars high in the previous week and previous night of Uttarayan.
During this season, terrace of 400 such houses is given on rent in walled city of Ahmedabad. Some people rent and book terrace a month before Uttarayan. This trend is followed in Ahmedabad for the past few years.
